Hi guys

I have been looking for tape to attach the window of my case for a while. Have tried to use everything from Commercial strength glue and normal double sided type. With the Glue if gets a brittle over time and as soon as you take the panel off it pops off and standard double sided tape it not at all strong.

Anyway found a web page for case modding that recommends Scotch mounting Tape Number 4010. But in NZ this is almost impossible to find.
After One night recording a pod cast with one of my Artist friends (will be up soon on Youtube under username “TheNZgeek”) and the Panel did the same thing again when we moved the computer back to car from the studio. Anyway Told them of my problem with finding this Tape and they looked at me funny, as only a crazy Painter would. But as thanks for the work, they put out the word through there contacts in Arts supply community. Fours week’s later Takapuna Arts supplies have done great things and got me two rolls from the US at a very reasonable price.

Now I now there is some commercial tapes in NZ used for glass to metal bonds, but since they come in 40 meter rolls and price wise it very expensive.

Product info

and it in use

Bulldog mod

Price wise it very good Cheapest Place in the USA was $6 each + freight (which was the killer) and they got it for $12 + courier to my door.

Anyway will be testing it out tonight and will get results up if it any good

Rhys

I had to ring 3M in NZ to find where i could buy this stuff (In Franklin, they don't seem to have it) but eventually i tracked some down to Bunnings in Manukau City. Under $10 for a roll. Then i saw the 'HEAVY duty' type next to it, so i brought both. They stronger of the two is not see through, but it sticks like sh*t to a blanket.

If you can get it from bunnings now, I will going to stairs and throttling someone (My parent company owns Bunnings and they where the first place I tried, due to staff discount reason), they told me they did have stock of it and due to lack of demand they will not be bring it in again

But if you can find it there cheaper then grab it, The Ladies in Takapuna are happy to get it in for anyone else who wants it.

Sorry buddy, didn't want to wreck your mood. Had to share this little gem with the forum. Was a mission to find this product and i was surprised to know Bunnings did sell it.

No problem, Had a few cold pills today so pretty happy anyway.

Anyway the tape worked very well.

One warning once it sticks it sticks hard, so removing and trying again is not a option

Oh the white marks on the plastic is not the tape, it the melted plastic from the glue I tried before, the tape is pretty much clear.

And how strong is it Well this is two 750ml camel backs fulled with water so about 1.5 kgs of wieight, so more than strong enough.

So lesson from all this if you are doing a case mod and need a strong tape the job, this is it.

The fact that it is clear & flexiable is a bonus for case windows
