I had 2 of the same ASUS original EAH5870's version 1 and one of them has stuffed up (covered under warranty) they can can only replace it with the V2 card as the V1 is now hard to get, Will I get any problems in Crossfire config and is it better to run the V2 as the main card. I have checked the ASUS website and both the cards are pretty much the same except for a few mods like the outputs and slight change in pcb design but match in all other specs.
Cheers

Should work sweet. Its just like the sapphire vapour x (had one xfired with a 2gb eyefinity card, mixing it up a little more), where all the mem chips are on one side of the pcb. This cuts down on pcb printing time and soldering making the card cheaper to make and more components cooled more efficiently by the cooler on the one side. Majority of the non reference pcbs are using the exact same contact schematics as the as reference. I doubt you will notice any difference...
Good luck

can xfire 5850, 5870, (depending on driver used a 5970 with 58xx series) or a 5770 with 5750. For a while i had three 5870 (one a 2gb eyefinity 6 card) hybrid xfired with a 5770, or 4870x2 with 4870, 4850. The first two numbers are the most important with the ati range when it comes to compatibility... If your really pedantic about wanting to mix cards up then you could just go hydra.. I see some of the top HWbot points coming off hydra rigs with four 5970 (8 gpus)... A bit ott but it can be done regardless of practicality (though its not really xfire). Xfiring a 5870 with a 5850 isint exactly all glitter and glory, as the higher end card will clock down and turn of shader clusters to emulate a 5850, so in return it will be as if running 2x 5850. Still gives you a performance boost while letting you use most of the power of the 5870 till you sell the 5850 and get another 5870. Rather disappointed personally at nvidia for not going down the same track, im sure we will see some other people share their point of veiw as this can be a bias/sensitive topic...

thanks for the info cronicash - so i take it if i get a 5850 superclocked gfx card it will be slowed down to the older card speed?

Nope, the superclocked attain the same overclocked frequency's. The older card will stay the same unless you overclock it to the same level or where ever. 5870 will just drop down to same amount of shaders and default clocks (default 5850 emulation to start off with), but you'll be able to overclock it still. You will still remain with the same amount of shaders as the lesser card. Super clock wont be any different to throwing in any other pre overclocked series minus the shader count, shaders are the common denominator.....
